Iron, steel or aluminum?

For most homes we suggest powder-coated aluminum: rust-free and light. Where strength matters more, such as a driveway gate or a security line, steel is the better pick.

Why are open fences popular in front yards?

Because they pass the front-yard rules more easily and still look finished. They also keep sight lines open for driveways and corners.

Do they work on a slope?

Rackable panels follow a gentle slope smoothly. Steeper ground gets stepped sections, with the gap under each panel kept small for pets and pools.

The classic Santa Ana front fence

A wrought-iron or steel picket fence with a walk gate is the most common front-yard fence in the city. Kept to 3 feet, or 4 feet on an arterial, it fits section 41-610. Over 18 inches, it needs a permit, which we handle.
